I really enjoyed the listener question and hearing Bishop Barron’s response. I’ve always thought that one of the major differences between a believer and a non-believer is that a believer never gives up and perseveres till the end, while a non-believer simply gives up and throws it all away. Of course believers ask all the same questions that atheists do, but instead of giving up they seek understanding and search, learn, pray, keep on asking, and not simply throw it all away.

A great PodCast on the role played by beauty in drawing them toward an act of faith. Bishop Barron has an impressive knack for seeing the good in different elements of our society; his commentary ranged from Superhero movies to Dante! Great stuff!

I grew up in a small mostly protestant evangelical town well distant from a larger city. A significant portion of my family viewed the Catholic Church as a corrupt institution destructive of “real Christianity.” The Pope was thought to be a candidate for the anti-Christ. On my paper route was the one Catholic Church in town, and the only place that featured stained glass windows. I desperately wanted to see what those windows looked like from the inside, but couldn’t summon the courage to walk into that vaguely dangerous place. Finally, I overcame my fears and stepped into a Catholic church for the first time simply to witness the interior glow of a stained glass window. That was also my first step toward becoming a Catholic convert ten years later.

Weekly podcasts like this one very helpful in understanding my faith. The comment that all struggle with faith let me know I’m not alone.

Wonderful episode on how beauty can draw one to God since, of course it is from God.
