In Stephen Hawking’s new book, Brief Answers to the Big Questions, published just a few months after his death, the famed scientists suggests that God does not exist and the universe does not require an explanation. Is he right? Bishop Barron discusses those claims in today’s episode.

From CS. Lewis in Mere Christianity: “…when Freud is talking about how to cure neurotics he is speaking as a specialist on his own subject, but when he goes on to talk general philosophy he is speaking as an amateur.” This observation from Lewis seems to apply similarly to Hawking. When Hawking is talking about physics “he is speaking as a specialist on his own subject, but when he goes on to talk general philosophy (or theology) he is speaking as an amateur.” How humbling that success in one area of life can lead to hubris / ignorance/ blindness in other areas! If Hawking thinks the universe is a “free lunch,” why not thank the Host for His Hospitality!
